Two-Alarm Fire Engulfs Fairfax Bank

Several roads in the area were blocked off as crews battled the fire, causing major traffic delays.

A two-alarm fire called a number of firefighters to a business in Fairfax Thursday afternoon and snarled traffic in the area.

A second alarm was sounded around 4:30 p.m. for the Fairfax County Credit Union, located at 4201 Members Way, just outside Fairfax City limits. Fire department alerts indicated the fire was going through the roof of the bank.

Traffic alerts indicated that Rte. 29 (Lee Highway) past VA-665 (Waples Mill Road) and Shirley Gate Road were currently blocked near Kamp Washington, as well as Meagan Drive and Andrew Lane.

Northbound lanes of US-29 (Lee Highway) and westbound lanes of Waples Mills were also down to one lane, causing delays of around 30 minutes though the area.

Did you see the fire, or were you caught in the traffic mess that resulted? Tell us in the comments.
