Fairfax City Gearing Up for 2013 Fall Festival

It's coming up on Saturday, Oct. 12.

NOTE: The Fall Festival has been postponed to Sunday, Oct. 13 due to weather. Details here.

Already, readers are turning to Fairfax City Patch, eager for details on the upcoming 2013 Fall Festival.

It all takes place next Saturday, Oct. 12, in Old Town, where booths, rides, live music stages and more will fill the streets for thousands of visitors from throughout Northern Virginia.

Here are some of the highlights of this, the 37th annual festival:

  • Over 400 booths of juried crafters and food vendors
  • A beer garden
  • Four stages of live entertainment, from dance bands to children's performers
  • Amusement rides from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • The famous Lumberjack Competition on Armstrong Street
  • The Business Expo

....and much, much more.

Some of the featured musical acts this year will include '80s tribute band The Reflex; southern pop and country group The Morrisson Brothers; the award-winning children's group Rocknocerus, and Scythian, performing their brand of "rousing and raucous, kicked-up Celtic and world music."

"Fall Festival remains one of the city's premiere special events that attracts thousands of people and continues to grow bigger and better every year," said Mayor Scott Silverthorne. "I remember back when I was a kid and my father was a city councilman, when the festival first started - they were lucky to get 500 people there. Now it's a destination for vendors and shoppers from all over the area alike, and it's turned into a huge success story."
