Captain Pell's Keeps All-You-Can-Eat Crab Tradition Alive, Even Through Derecho

Roll up your sleeves and get cracking in this laid back, well-priced crab feast.

For over 35 years the place to go for genuine, hard shell, all-you-can-eat Maryland crabs in this area is Captain Pell’s. For the last 13 years they have been located on Lee Highway in Fairfax City.  These types of places abound on the Eastern shore. They're known for their butcher-brown paper table coverings ripped from a huge industrial roll on the wall, with wooden mallets pounding and cracking and bits of shell and crabmeat flying everywhere. Captain Pell’s is no different, a place where you can gather a bunch of adult friends, roll up your sleeves and kick back for a long evening of cracking crabs and drinking cold bottled beers. Casa Italia Boasts Homemade Cuisine, Italian Chef

The restaurant stands out for its big portions at small prices.

The restaurant across from Truro Church on Main Street has many former lives. Once Café Italia II, more recently Vinnie's, and as of Memorial Day weekend, the Grand Opening sign belongs to Casa Italia. Owner Dan Harmon hopes his Italian expert chef, renovated patio and aggressive marketing strategy will keep Casa Italia successful for a long time on the fringes of downtown Fairfax. Patch foodie Nancy Loughin stopped by last week for a peek at the new restaurant: Harmon greeted us at our seats. He was gregarious, quickly handing us one of his business cards. Greene Turtle a Crowd Pleaser in Downtown Fairfax

The newest addition to Old Town Fairfax appeals to casual diners and sports fans.

Downtown Fairfax, just one block over from Main Street on University Blvd., scored a grand slam with the opening of The Greene Turtle a few weeks ago.  The casual, family-friendly sports bar serves up juicy burgers, unique wraps and sandwiches and has an expansive list of beers.  It is clearly the place to be when the NBA Playoffs begin to wrap up, or the Nationals continue their impressive winning streak.  With 28 “Turtles” open in a three-state area, and one at the Verizon Center in downtown D.C., this location was the first venture into Fairfax (the other ones are located in Leesburg, Arlington, Dulles Towne Center, Hampton and Fredericksburg).
