Fairfax City Patch editor Whitney Rhodes leaves for Australia.
When I moved back to Fairfax I wasn't sure what I'd find. I discovered the old town, friendly atmosphere I remembered as a kid. You folks welcomed me back as though I'd never left. So writing this goodbye note... it's difficult. Fairfax is my home. I survived my first (and hopefully last!) derecho, learned the ins and outs of the police and fire departments through their citizens academies, covered a controversial …

Add info, photos and more to your business listing -- for free
When Fairfax City launched, editors and freelancers visited local businesses in order to collect information for our directory. Patch's directory is a spot where users can find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods, and much more for spots around both towns. All users can add events taking place at local spots, can rate the business on a scale of one to five stars, and can add a review. But did you know owners of local businesses can "claim" their listings to keep the information for their customers as up-to-date as possible? Owners or managers should search for their business listing and select "Claim your listing" in order to make updates to the page. A form will pop up asking for your name, contact information, and proof of …

Patch will launch a new Tysons Corner site in August.
Patch plans to launch a new site for the Tysons Corner community in late August. With a growing population and major infrastructure and business development in progress, Tysons Corner residents and businesses will receive more local news coverage and a platform for community information and engagement. Patch, a community-specific news, information and engagement platform, launched in Virginia in 2010. Patch.com currently reaches residents and businesses across 30 websites in our area from Leesburg to D.C. and as far south as Fredericksburg (and closer to home, in Vienna, McLean, Oakton, Reston and Falls Church). With the addition of Tysons Corner Patch, this raises the number of Patch.com sites in Northern Virginia and the District to 31…

Fairfax City Patch will turn two years old in September. We've gotten to know the community and have created a large following. It's been fantastic. We wanted to take the time to remind you why we're here and what this site is all about. Simply put, it's about you. We've built Patch so that you have plenty of opportunities to comment on stories, share your opinions, post photos and announcements and add events to the community calendar. We hope that our site will strengthen the community, but we can't do it without you. So get to it! 1. Comment on an Article We subscribe to the idea that "news is a conversation." Much of our reporting will emanate from what readers tell us in emails, comments on our sites and in conversations around town…

What do you think of our new homepage design?
Did you notice anything different when you logged on to Fairfax City Patch today? We did a quick visual nip-and-tuck to the homepage to make it even more user-friendly. And we've moved a couple pieces of furniture. For those keeping score: Rest assured that our new design will not affect our coverage of the Fairfax City community. That was, is, and will always be our mission. Let us know what you think about our tweaks - e-mail me at whitney@patch.com or leave a comment below!
