A glimpse inside Patch's newsroom decisions in covering the disappearance, and death, of Woodson High School senior.
It's been an emotional month for the Glenn family, the community that embraced them, and the folks sent to report on all this. It's been more than two weeks since Bryan Glenn went missing after dropping his younger brother off at Woodson High School. It's been just more than a week since volunteers found his body on the edge of Thaiss Park. Hours ago, I returned home from Bryan's funeral at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale to read a thought-provoking rehash by the Washington Post's Tom Jackman of the nightmarish two weeks in which the Woodson-Fairfax community rallied around the search for the senior football player. Jackman clarifies some points about the Woodson student's disappearance, how police reacted and why the Post didn't …

City and county police say there's no threat to the public.
Police say they believe there is no threat to the public after volunteers found the body of missing Woodson student Bryan Glenn in the woods near Thaiss Park on Columbus Day. Fairfax City Police recently stepped up patrols around Pickett Road, Silver King Court and Thaiss Park, but not as a response to a predator or perceived threat. "The entire City of Fairfax is a low crime area. We have not had a murder in three years," said Sgt. Joe Johnson of the City of Fairfax Police Department. "The park is safe. It was a request we received from the community and we have stepped up patrols until this case is closed." Bryan Glenn remembered by German classmates; Fairfax County police still waiting to hear from medical examiner's office.
The Woodson High School community is still waiting, quietly mourning three days after senior Bryan Glenn's body was discovered Monday by volunteers in the woods near Thaiss Park. Find Bryan flyers are still posted all over the city, but a closer look reveals a different, painful atmosphere than the one surrounding last week's frantic search for the missing football player and Monday's shocking discovery. The desperate pleas for information on Bryan's whereabouts have transformed into messages of support on family Facebook walls. Officers announced the official identification of Bryan's body Wednesday, confirming what most, including friends and family, already knew. Police are now waiting for the medical examiner's report, which should …

Blogger says community came together during this crisis.
Editor's Note: This blog post was written by Nicole Dash, a mother of four living in Annandale. Check out her blog, Tiny Steps Mommy. The children are in music class and I thought about quickly publishing a “Mom Who Gives Back” article or perhaps answering a couple of questions for my Mom-to-Mom advice column. Instead, I find myself thinking about the 17-year-old boy Bryan Glenn from my neighborhood high school who was found dead in the woods yesterday exactly a week after going missing. The details are still coming in, but regardless of the WHY or HOW it is a tragic loss. You can’t go two feet in my neighborhood without seeing missing person posters for the young man who suddenly disappeared. His car was left abandoned in the parking lot …

Vigil held at Woodson high school after homecoming victory.
Woodson students, their parents, friends and football players gathered at the high school stadium after Saturday's homecoming win to pray for Bryan Glenn's safe return. Family and friends pleaded with the crowd to come forward if they knew anything about Bryan's whereabouts or what happened to him the Monday morning he disappeared. "Most likely someone in your age group knows where he is," said Julia Ross, a SAT prep/college coach who worked with Bryan and his brother up to three times a week for a past few months. "We need you to tell. There won't be any punishment. When this is all over and Bryan's home we're going to have a big party." The Woodson senior was last seen dropping his younger brother Marty off at Woodson High School at …
