Fairfax City council members and developers agreed Tuesday night on a concept design proposal for the new Kitty Pozer Park in the center of downtown Fairfax. The final design features a lawn oval and plaza running diagonal from the intersection of North Street and University Drive into what's now Kitty Pozer Garden. Kitty Pozer Park will offer a pergola, cascade water fountain, bike racks and landscaping meant to serve as a gathering place for downtown shoppers and events. Developers from AECOM, the company designing the park, listened to council members' concerns about the last proposal (design H) in May. Council members gave the go ahead to developers to start designing Kitty Pozer Park after reviewing the latest concept design at a work session Tuesday night. Council votes unanimously to expand garden.
Council members got a bit of a surprise seconds before they were to vote whether to turn the heart of downtown Fairfax into a park. After some confusion, the council unanimously agreed to go ahead with the expansion of Kitty Pozer Garden. Some Old Town Fairfax business owners groaned as one by one the Fairfax City council members expressed their support for a plan that would expand Kitty Pozer over the temporary gravel parking lot next to Old Town Hall. A few got up and left before the Tuesday night vote. But Mayor Rob Lederer was just wrapping up his thoughts on the project when he said something that shocked the others.
