Investigation helped along by new evidence, media attention and community tips.
A Fairfax man was arrested in connection with a June hit and run that threw Mohammad Jabour 50 feet into a parked car at Fairfax Boulevard and Warwick Avenue. Police released surveillance images of the vehicle suspected in the hit and run in August. The new evidence and media attention raised the interest of the community, said Sgt. Joe Johnson of the City of Fairfax Police Department. Thanks to tips from the public, police identified the driver as Leon Andrew D. Oliveira, 35, of Barrick Street. Oliveira was charged with felony hit and run and arrested when he met with officers at the police station on Nov. 28. He was transported to the Adult Detention Center and bail was set at $2,500. Man charged with driving under the influence of drugs in Thursday incident at police headquarters.
A Spotsylvania man was arrested and charged with multiple offenses Thursday after he allegedly drove into the garage of the City of Fairfax Police Headquarters, causing an estimated $10,000 in damage. Anthony John Skrobacz, 49, of Spotsylvania, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and reckless driving, and hit and run. City of Fairfax Police Sgt. Joe Johnson said in a release Thursday the driver of a 1999 Mercury Marquis drove onto the driveway of the headquarters building, at 3730 Old Lee Highway, at about 2 a.m. Thursday. Suspect who allegedly killed 62-year-old man apprehended in Washington D.C.
Police arrested a Strasburg, Va. man in connection with the August hit and run death of a 62-year-old man on Fairfax Boulevard. Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested Malik Tayvon Battle, 22, in Washington D.C. He was transferred into City of Fairfax Police custody Sept. 28. Battle is charged with striking James Ralph Davidson with his vehicle as Davidson was attempting to cross the road at around 1:15 a.m. Aug. 18. in the 9800 block of Fairfax Boulevard near Draper Drive. Battle did not stop to aid the victim, police said. Davidson was pronounced dead at the scene. A hearing has been set for 9:20 am. Oct. 30 in Fairfax County District Court. This is the second Fairfax City hit and run in 2012.
Police are searching for the driver who reportedly struck and killed a man then drove away without helping early Saturday morning. Arlington County Police found a 2010 Jeep Compass they say was used in the crime shortly after James Ralph Davidson, 62, of no fixed address was found dead at the Fairfax City scene. City of Fairfax Police impounded the vehicle. They are now investigating to try to find out who was driving the Jeep during the 1:15 a.m. hit-and-run incident. Police are investigating a fatal hit and run in Fairfax City.
UPDATE (1:01 p.m.): The man who died as a result of a hit and run in Fairfax Saturday morning was James Ralph Davidson, according to City of Fairfax Police. A man died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Fairfax Boulevard early Saturday morning, according to the City of Fairfax Police Department. The 62-year-old man of no fixed address was attempting to cross in the 9800 block of Fairfax Boulevard (near Draper Drive) at around 1:15 a.m. when a 2010 Jeep Compass drove into him. The driver did not stop. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have yet to release his identity. Police say the vehicle was found by Arlington County Police. Officers are investigating.

Fairfax City Police released new surveillance images of what may be the vehicle that hit a man walking along Fairfax Boulevard and Warwick Avenue in June. Mohammad Jabour, 33, was struck by an SUV while walking on the sidewalk on June 15. The impact threw him more than 50 feet into a parked vehicle. He remains in a coma. Police suspect the vehicle was a white 1999 or 2000 Toyota RAV 4 with a black wheel cover over the rear-mounted spare tire. Photos of the vehicle were taken by cameras on Fairfax Boulevard around the time of the crime. Call Lt. Police are looking for a driver who fled the scene.
UPDATE (Monday, 6 p.m.): Police have tracked down Jabour's next of kin. They are enroute from West Virginia, California and overses, said Sgt. Joe Johnson of City of Fairfax Police Department. (5 a.m.): Police released more information Sunday in the hope that someone will step forward to help solve this hit and run case. Mohammad Jabour, 33, was struck by a vehicle while walking along Fairfax Boulevard and Warwick Avenue. He was taken to the hospital Friday night with serious injuries.
