UPDATE: Election Results

UPDATE (9:39 p.m.): Petersen and Bulova thank supporters for their help in what they consider a win for Democrats in Fairfax City.  "It's fair to say that we're in good shape," Petersen announced to the campaign crowd gathered at Old Fire Station 3 in Fairfax City Tuesday night.  Bulova agreed, adding that he and his volunteers have worked hard not just for this election, but for the future of democracy in Fairfax. (9:36 p.m.): Petersen wins Fairfax City with 3,022 votes in the city's seven precincts to Culipher's 1,587. There are still 30 Fairfax County precincts to go. (9:34 p.m.): Bulova wins Fairfax City with 2,818 votes in the city's seven precincts to Schoeneman's 1,780. There are still 10 Fairfax County precincts to go. See below …

Candidates for the 34th District Senate seat answer resident questions at Vienna debate

The Silver Line was one issue on which Incumbent State Sen. Chap Petersen (D) and Republican challenger Gerarda Culipher couldn't agree Thursday night, in one of the first debates of the 34th District Senate race. The debate at Vienna's American Legion gave the more than 60 residents that filled the hall an early glimpse of the candidates' positions on roads, businesses, jobs and taxes. Culipher said she'd would work to triple the number of parking spaces allocated for stations on Silver Line, which would make Metro a more accessible option for commuters from Chantilly and Centreville, she said. Candidates for the 34th District Senate seat answer resident questions at Vienna debate

Incumbent Sen. Chap Petersen (D) and Republican challenger Gerarda Culipher faced off Thursday night in one of the first debates of the 34th District Senate race. The debate at Vienna's American Legion gave the more than 60 residents that filled the hall an early glimpse of the candidates' positions on roads, businesses, jobs and taxes. The "new 34th District" now includes more of Centreville and Chantilly, along with its long-standing base of voters in Vienna, Oakton, Fairfax City, as well as parts of Burke and Annandale. Candidates clashed early in the debate on environmental regulations and tax credits. District 34: Candidates Plan Campaign Events for Labor Day Weekend

Campaigning doesn't stop for these state senate candidates over the holiday weekend.

Between the barbeques, the pool parties and the Monday holiday, your social calendar may already be full this weekend. But if you're in the mood for some campaigning, this is what the District 34 State Senate candidates will be up to. Candidate Gerarda Culipher's campaign will be door-knocking in the Pope's Head Precinct on Friday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Volunteers are asked to meet at the Living Savior Lutheran Church, 5550 Ox Rd. in Fairfax Station.
