Letter to the Editor: Parents, High-Schoolers Invited to Participate in FCPS School Food Survey

Independent assessment seeks feedback.

Last year, the FCPS School Board approved funding for an independent study of school food services at Fairfax County Public Schools. As part of the assessment process, Prismatic has released two brief surveys, one for parents/caregivers and one for high-school aged students, which may be accessed through the links below. The survey, which is completely confidential, is available in English, Spanish and Korean and will be available through the end of FCPS Spring Break. You can access the surveys here (the deadline to participate is March 29): Parent …

The only people that see FairfaxCAPS as a single issue organization is the current School Board. Advocacy groups, school boards, and others from around the United States have sought expertise and technical assistance from FairfaxCAPS on a variety of issues. FairfaxCAPS worked closely with members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on several issues--notably the successful effort to stop …   more ›

Most community youth sports groups with whom I'm familiar practice and play in elementary and middle school gyms, not high schools. Every high school gym that I know of is committed to a school related activity almost every night and not available on the DCRS schedule. What community youth sports group is using a high school gym? The outside high school fields? We turn on the lights.   more ›

Ilryong Moon: "Experience matters." I couldn't help but chuckle just a bit. Sometimes in the course of human events, we find the experience we need is not 12 years of being on the school board. I can just imagine the British saying such things to future Americans. Perhaps because Dr. Dale has often been called King Dale -- it just brought a smile to my face. I agree with Mr. Moon: "an independent…   more ›

Of course they say it's underfunded. What politician has ever been elected after saying anything other than, "the schools need more money"? And in Fairfax, all the schools need to do is put a bond referendum on the ballot and it will pass with 90% uninformed voter approval. Like the quarter of a billion dollars coming up on the ballot next month, people are not going to bother looking at the fact…   more ›
