Fairfax City residents have slightly below the region's average commute time of 34.5 minutes.
If you're sitting in traffic on Main Street this morning, you should know you at least have it better than some other drivers in the region. While commuters as a whole in the Washington metropolitan area have the second-longest commutes in the nation, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the average for Fairfax City's zip codes is slightly below the average for the DC area as a whole. According to data released by the U.S. Census, it takes Fairfax County residents an average 31.3 minutes to get to work. In Arlington County, it's not much better — 26.5 minutes. Montgomery County residents have some of the longest commutes in the metro region, clocking in at 33.2 minutes. If you think moving into the city might help, think again. It takes D.C. dwellers an average of 29.3 minutes to reach the office. And for many people, this commuting time adds up to gallons and gallons of gas at the pump each week. That's why watching gas prices approach $4 per gallon is so painful. The Associated Press reported on Thursday that …

Eff - How is that a republican strategy? I have had 2 transponders from Maryland for almost 10 years, They started a fee structure about 3 yrs ago. I believe MD is a Democrat state !!! Bet other states up and down I95 have a fee as well.. As far as how I feel about it. I think it stinks. I believe its more of a way to solve financial balance sheets without looking inward towards the VDOT itself …   more ›
