Korean Zombie takes on Dustin Poirier
The latest UFC event at the Patriot Center in Fairfax City matched 24 fighters for Facebook and Fuel TV fans, as well as about 5,000 attendees. UFC on Fuel 3: Korean Zombie vs. Dustin Poirier brought fighters from around the world to compete, but fans cheered loudest for local heroes. Ultimate Fighter winner, Amir Sadollah, from Richmond, pulled off a razor-thin win over Jorge Lopez. Lopez wrestled Sadollah against the cage for much of the fight, but Sadollah stifled Lopez’s offense and took over the match in the third round to secure a split-decision victory. Falls Church’s Kamal Shalarus did not fare as well. Stunned early in the first round by a high kick, a dazed Shalarus failed to defend a rear-naked choke from Brazilian fighter …

The week culminates in Bike to Work Day on Friday, held rain or shine, when cyclists can make a "pit stop" at one of 58 locations across the D.C. region for T-shirts, refreshments, giveaways and bicycling advice. There are nine pit stops planned across Fairfax County from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 18. The two most popular stops are in Reston and Vienna, at the Washington and Old Dominion Trail's intersection with Maple Avenue, Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling Bruce Wright said. The win propels Woodson into the Northern Region tournament.
Woodson’s girls lacrosse team captured the Patriot District title last Friday night with a 14 – 11 win over the top seeded Lake Braddock Bruins. This district championship is the third consecutive earned by the Cavs since joining the Patriot District in the 2009/2010 school year. The win propels Woodson into the Northern Region tournament, which begins Tuesday night for the Cavs when they host the Falls Church Jaguars at Woodson’s Pat Cunningham Stadium. The championship contest started well for Woodson, as they jumped out to an early 5 – 0 lead over the Bruins. The large lead dissipated quickly, however, as the Bruins chipped away at the deficit to close within a goal at halftime. Fortunately for Cavaliers fans that was as close as …

A quick look at the last three games.
The Woodson girls lacrosse team ended their regular season Wednesday with a 6 – 1 record in the district. The Cavaliers girls lacrosse team traveled east down Little River Turnpike on Saturday morning to face local rival Annandale in a Patriot District match up. After a tight first half Woodson eventually pulled away from the Atoms en route to a 16 – 10 win. The Atoms started strong, getting on the scoreboard quickly to take a 2 – 0 lead. The teams then battled back and forth to a 6 – 6 tie midway through the half. The game remained close before Woodson went on a scoring run to take a four goal lead at halftime, 10 - 6. Redskins hope the talented quaterback can bring the team succes on and off the field.
If you're wondering why everyone in your office is sporting braids and insisting on being called by their initials, you can thank one person—Robert Griffin III. Last week the Washington Redskins selected Griffin—more commonly known as RGIII—with the second overall pick in the NFL draft, culminating a months long lovefest with the highly talented Heisman winning quarterback out of Baylor University. With the pick, the Redskins and their fans hope to end a generation’s worth of mediocre play at football's most important position, and bring an infusion of excitement to a team seemingly incapable of escaping the gravitational pull of its black hole of futility. RGIII's physical gifts are a big reason for the buzz he has generated across the …

Final score: 19-10
Woodson girls lacrosse faced undefeated West Potomac at home on April 19 to continue its recent success in Patriot District play. When the final whistle sounded the Cavaliers found themselves right where they hoped it be, on the winning end of a 19–10 victory that moved their district record to 3–0. The Cavaliers jumped out to a quick 3–0 lead and remained in command 12–7 at halftime. Woodson pulled away in the second half thanks to its stifling defense and control of ground ball opportunities. Senior co-captain Leah Williamson had a fine game controlling ground balls at midfield and starting Woodson’s offensive chances. Fellow senior Morgan Willard led the defense causing several turnovers near the eight-meter arch. Senior goalie and co-…
Tell Us: Should the 'Skins draft a franchise quarterback or fill another need?
The NFL Draft has finally arrived and the Washington Redskins are sitting in the No. 2 spot in the first round. ESPN projects the 'Skins will select Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin, III. If RG3 comes to Washington, it will be the first time the Redskins have drafted a quarterback in the first round since Jason Campbell in 2005. Griffin threw for more than 4,000 yards and rushed for almost 700-yards last season while reaching the end zone 47 times. The last time the Redskins drafted a Heisman Trophy winner was 20-years ago when Desmond Howard joined the team, according to the Washington Times. But to move up in the 2012 NFL Draft, the 'Skins gave up a king’s ransom. To move into the St. Louis Rams’ spot, the Washington Times reported …

After a tight first 10 minutes of play, the Cavaliers used a well-balanced offense and aggressive defense to dominate both sides of the field and pull away from the Titans for the decisive win. Woodson was led on offense by seniors Grace Finnerty and Elena Obregon who helped control the game’s tempo and distribute scoring chances.
