Fairfax City Police said Tuesday the death of a man assaulted in the parking lot of a Best Buy has been ruled a homicide — the first homicide reported in Fairfax City since August 2008. Librado Cena, 57, of Fairfax, allegedly assaulted the victim — now identified as William Hays O'Brien, 63, of Fairfax City — April 16 outside the store on Main Street. Fairfax County Police Officer Long Dinh was critically injured in the line of duty on Feb. 28.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 77 will hold a fundraiser for Fairfax County Police Officer Long Dinh this Sunday, April 28 at Hard Times Cafe, 4069 Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax City. Dinh, an officer in the Mason District, was critically injured during a late-night police chase that ended in a head-on collision earlier this year on Feb. 28. According to police, that night, police officers responded to the report of a domestic dispute in the 4800 block of Tapestry Drive, not far from the George Mason University campus in Fairfax. The officers reportedly approached 40-year-old Cicero I. Limberea, of no fixed address, who was outside the home in his vehicle. An autopsy is pending on a man who died 10 days after allegedly being assaulted in a road rage incident in Fairfax City. According to police reports, the victim — whose identity is not being released at this time — called Fairfax City Police at 11:20 a.m. April 16 to say he had been walking from his car at the Best Buy on Main Street when another man walked up to him and assaulted him. The alleged assailant then left in his vehicle, the victim reported. Paramedics were called and the victim was taken to the hospital. Fairfax City Police said the department is taking an anonymous online threat 'very seriously.'
Fairfax City police have increased their presence at Paul VI Catholic High School after a poster in a local online forum praised Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and said the school "will be the scene of another massacre." Sgt. Kyle Penman confirmed the department had launched an investigation into the threats against the school, made by an anonymous poster on the site Fairfax Underground last week. Officers and school officials are taking the posts "very seriously," Penman said.
