Hey Coach you should stick to coaching and stop clowning around until you take home the trophy.
jerry gardner June 26, 2014 at 04:30 pm
Indeed. Watching a soccer game is much more important than keeping a job.

Government needs to take care of government and leave sports out of it. I am a direct decedent ofRead More Pocahontas and think the name Redskins is fine. I agree with the RPC. Why look a gift horse in the mouth. This team brings millions into Virginia each year. Maybe they should remove the name "Washington". Who wants to be associated with what is going on up there now.
John Lovaas June 29, 2014 at 07:04 am
It is sad that a sports team which for many years was a source fun and even a unifiying pride in theRead More Washington metro region has become a new battleground for disagreement and division among us. A sign of the times.

I'm glad these legislatures are doing this.

If you think traffic is bad now, it will be 10 times (or more!) worse then. Security alone will beRead More a nightmare. Let one of the other cities have it.
Woodside Park Bob June 14, 2014 at 11:44 am
I agree that having the Olympics here would be a disaster -- lots of inconvenience and costs to theRead More public and mainly only the hotel and restaurant business would benefit. Not one cent of tax money should go toward bringing the Olympics here.

I'm intrigued bit cautious. If something happens to remake the area around RFK it could be aRead More substantial legacy. The region already has a lot of the other event infrastructure and facilities so the games would be dispersed.

Parents ruin sports..
sportsnut July 14, 2014 at 07:39 am
Alan I agree. Parents coach to get their kids and kids friends a leg up. Kids are choosen too basedRead More on parents and kids being friends. Take AAU and All-Stars and positions in each sport. Parents coach because they want their kid in prime positions, kids are friends with certain kids or because a family does not like someone but the kid has talent not playing. You need "out of area" coaches to come and determine if a kid is "that good" to be at the next level not "locals" whom coach because that is the only way the kid will get playing time.
CowDung July 23, 2014 at 10:20 am
sportsnut: Seems like a perfect opportunity for you to get involved in coaching... If nothingRead More else, becoming a coach will give you a voice in the league to lobby for equal playing time for all kids, and rotation of positions--particularly at the lower levels.

Looking forward to Greg Hambrick's coverage of all the amazing achievements of our young athletes.

We saw most of that game and left early because we have small children who needed to get to bed. TheRead More next day they ask, "Who won the game?" "I'm sure we did, because we were 15 points ahead when we left." Now this. I would hate to have to tell them the truth. The guilty player should be suspended for the rest of the season. Let it serve as a deserved punishment -- and a warning to others. I had to see my alma mater's reputation sullied because of one stupid capitulation to violence.

It was a bonehead move and he should not have done it but people are acting like this is some majorRead More incident. It's not. Move on.
Burke Resident December 10, 2013 at 11:17 am
It is a major incident if left unrecognized. Glad Hewitt made the suspension. Hope it is for theRead More rest of the season. Certainly no loss to the team's capability, but hopefully a lesson learned. May be the team will rebound like they did after Skin's bonehead move. Of course Skin was a contributor.

Judging by the rinks mentioned, this player sounds more like a NoVa IceDog. The NVSHL, NorthernRead More Virginia Scholastic Hockey League, hasn't begun play. Ft. DuPont is in DC and Tucker Road in Maryland. I guess someone looked up Northern Virginia Hockey on the Internet and found the NVSHL instead of NoVa. Hopefully the young player will be able to come back, it is scary and with all the contact players have on the ice, on the bench and in the locker room, these things do happen.
Jennifer van der Kleut September 28, 2013 at 08:59 am
Hi Jarrod - we received confirmation from NVSHL that the boy is one of their players, and that heRead More played at those three rinks over the previous week.
Cristina Rugo September 30, 2013 at 08:23 am
Actually, NVSHL began their evaluations of House players, at the rinks mentioned, the weekend afterRead More Labor Day. Too, the League has notified parents of players about the case, and asked to take appropriate precautions.

Hi Nancy! We would LOVE to feature Fairfax High game recaps as well. We are still in search ofRead More someone in the community to help us out with those, or game photos. These Woodson game recaps are written by an enthusiastic and supportive Woodson family.
