This Weekend: 'Christmas in Fairfax' Concert, Senior Christmas Party, Adopt a Pet in Time for Christmas, and More

Plan your weekend with these fun events taking place in the Fairfax area and nearby.

Senior Christmas Party. Anyone 55 and over is welcome! Event includes a potluck, a visit from Santa, a charitable canned food drive, a wrapped gift exchange, a 50/50 raffle, and live holiday music by the City of Fairfax Band Association's Fairfax Saxophone Quartet. Bring a dish for the potluck, or a $5 donation. Reservations required by calling 703-273-6090. This Friday, Dec. 20 at 11:30 a.m. Green Acres Senior Center, 4401 Sideburn Road, Fairfax City.

Christmas in Fairfax Concert. Ring in the weekend with the sounds of Christmas at the 'Christmas in Fairfax' concert, featuring the City of Fairfax Band, with special guests the Fairfax Choral Society. Show presented by the Gingrich Foundation. This Saturday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. Fairfax High School, 3501 Rebel Run, Fairfax City.

Cat & Dog Adoption Event
The holidays are a great time to welcome a furry new member of the family! The Animal Control division of Fairfax City's police department will sponsor a cat and dog adoption event this Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pet Supplies Plus, 11054 Lee Hwy., Fairfax City.

Smoke-Free BingoWin yourself some last-minute holiday shopping or travel money, while supporting Fairfax's Volunteer Fire Department at the same time. Join in for Smoke-Free Bingo this Friday (and every Friday), Dec. 20 at 7:15 p.m. Free coffee, $1,000 guaranteed jackpot, "treasure chest" progressive raffles and more. All proceeds go toward maintaining and purchasing rescue equipment. Fire Station 3, 4081 University Dr., Fairfax City. 

Come Home to BethlehemBring the whole family to enjoy an interactive experience, depicting the very first Christmas night. See the angels. Talk with the shepherds. Best of all, look into the stable and see Mary, Joseph and the baby. Presented by the Church of the Apostles. Free. This Friday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. Sherwood Community Center, 3740 Old Lee Hwy., Fairfax City. 

Switching Christmas. This Broadway-style show tells the story of a precocious young girl who switches places with a perky and playful elf. All kinds of chaos ensue as New Yorkers and North Pole elves alike race to put everything back as it belongs before Santa’s late night flight. Presented by Encore Theatrical Arts Project, a not-for-profit performing arts company providing dance musical shows to Northern Virginia for the past 17 years. Richard J Ernst Theatre, NOVA Campus Annandale, 8333 Little River Turnpike. Tickets are $18 for students and seniors, and $22 for general admission. Performances run through this Sunday, Dec. 22. Click here for times and ticket information.

Holidays Lights Display at Kitty Pozer Garden. 
The garden behind Old Town Hall in downtown Fairfax City is lit up like a winter wonderland—and there's still plenty of time to see it. The garden is lit with hundreds of animated holiday lights, courtesy of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and the Bull Run Festival of Lights. The display will remain through Jan. 5. Free. Corner of Main Street and University Drive, downtown Old Town Fairfax.

Bull Run Festival of Lights:
 Through Jan. 5, just off of Interstate 66 on Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Centreville. The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority says they expect to see more than 30,000 cars drive through the holiday light display before it ends Jan. 5. Find out more here.

Meadowlark’s Winter Walk of Lights:
 Through Jan. 5. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, 9750 Meadowlark Gardens Court, Vienna 22182. Visit Meadowlark’s Winter Walk of Lights to experience over 500,000 LED lights and displays that bring Meadowlark Botanical Gardens to life!
