St. Patrick's Day: Two Concert Events This Weekend

Irish Breakfast Band visits Fairfax on Friday and The Chieftains takes the stage at GMU on Sunday.

St. Patrick's Day is Monday, March 17, 2014. But you don't have to wait that long to get your green on.

The City of Fairfax will host the Irish Breakfast Band at 8 p.m. Friday in the Old Town Hall, 3999 University Drive, as part of the Bonita Lestina Performance Series.

The Irish Breakfast Band is a diverse group of DC metro residents who perform Celtic tunes. "A child-friendly band, the group often brings extra percussion instruments to give young audience members a chance to participate," according to the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts.

Traditional Irish musicians The Chieftains will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at George Mason University's Center for the Arts, 4373 Mason Pond Drive. Tickets are priced from $30.

The band has collected six Grammy awards for its take on traditional Irish tunes and has performed with The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Luciano Pavarotti and more. There will also be a pre-performance discussion from Jon Pilatzke and Nathan Pilatzke, two members of The Chieftains.
