This Week: Lose Weight for Cash, Say Hi to Mr. Skip and More

Kick the Week Off With Mr. Skip. Celebrate the New Year with Mr. Skip, the City of Fairfax's favorite music man. Mr. Skip, who is all about music and movement, sings original and classic kids songs like Old MacDonald to the 5-and-under crowd on Monday mornings at 10:30 a.m. He gets the kids out of their seats and moving—even the parents and grandparents seem to have fun as Mr. Skip plays his own special brand of music. Free. This Monday, Jan. 6 at 10:30 a.m. Old Town Hall, Main Street and University Drive, downtown Fairfax City.

Warm Up Those Pipes
Vocal pipes, that is. The Fairfax Choral Society Adult Chorus will hold an open rehearsal this Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Fairfax Presbyterian Church, 10723 Main St., Fairfax. All are welcome to participate. Singers interested in joining the choir may schedule an audition after the rehearsal. RSVP at 703-642-3277. 

Shine Bright Like a DiamondHave a budding cheerleader in your home? The Nova Diamonds competitive cheerleading team will kick off its 2014 season with registration this Wednesday, Jan. 8, beginning at 8 a.m. Participants ages 6 to 16 are welcome. Be the Biggest Loser, Win CashIf you're a fan of the show The Biggest Loser, and you've made a New Year's resolution to lose weight, you could win cash for it. Title Boxing Club of Fairfax is about to kick off its Biggest Loser 2014 contest. Men and women will compete to see who loses the biggest percentage of weight, in hopes of winning prizes like $250 cash and club-wide bragging rights. To participate, register at the club and then show up for a weigh-in this weekend on either Saturday or Sunday during business hours. The competition will last seven weeks.
