Take a Ride on the Ghost Train: Join in for a fun event, with activities for kids, moon bounces, carousel rides and a spooky ride through the park at the 33rd annual Ghost Train at Burke Lake Park. Volunteers Needed for VolunteerFest! Volunteer Fairfax will host VolunteerFest this Saturday. Last year's event created a living classroom all about nature and the environment at Lanier Middle School in Fairfax City - this year, there are a long list of projects you can choose to help with, beginning at 9 a.m., such as working on expanding the living classroom from last year at Lanier, breaking ground on a new literacy garden at Daniel's Run, and more. Get Rid of Those Unwanted Prescription Drugs: City of Fairfax Police, in cooperation with the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration, will be collecting unused and unwanted prescription drugs at two locations this Saturday, Oct. 26. Persons with unused and unwanted prescription drugs may take them to the Police Headquarters lobby at 3730 Old Lee Highway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or police officers will be located outside the CVS Pharmacy at 10090 Fairfax Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Over-the-counter medications also will be accepted. Drop-off is anonymous, and no identification or prescription information is required. Liquids, needles or other sharp objects cannot be accepted.
Help 'Complete the Circle' and Fight Local Hunger: Donate some time to help Fairfax City-based Our Daily Bread. The annual "Complete the Circle" event is a creative, meaningful service project for groups, individuals, and families, where everyone joins together to create a "living painting" of an image that will be photographed from the sky. Food donations collected during the event will "complete the circle" of giving by framing the picture that day, and will go on to feed neighbors in need. Participants, volunteers, and event sponsors are needed. This Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. Fairfax High School practice field, 3501 Rebel Run, Fairfax City. Click the link above for more information.
