Teen Has a Wish: #GetErinOnEllen

Battling lymphoma, a Fairfax teen wants to meet daytime's funny lady.

A Fairfax City teen is too old for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, but not too old to have a wish: Erin Suidikas wants to be on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The daytime talk show regularly spotlights everyday viewers who have overcome obstacles and challenges in their life. Usually, those challenges are made easier with the help of a daily dose of dancing and laughing that the show provides in spades.

Erin was diagnosed late last year with Hodgkin lymphoma. At 18, she doesn't have a resource like Make-A-Wish Foundation to make her wish happen. So, with the help of friends and supporters, she's hoping to get on Ellen's show.

On Facebook, Get Erin Suidikas On Ellen Degeneres has more than 1,300 likes and there's also a Twitter account @geterinonellen and #geterinonellen.

"I know I speak for my self as well as Erin when I say how much we appreciate this outpouring of support we've been getting from people everywhere!" campaign organizer Alexandra Arabak tells Patch. "Many people from Erin's school as well as her equestrian community have been working tirelessly to help us promote our cause!"

The idea for the social media campaign was seen as a way to reach out to cancer organizations. The community's overwhelming support has been a welcome surprise, Alexandra said.

She exclaimed, "We are so thankful for everyone's support and don't plan to stop until we have reached our goal!"

And they have good reason to hope. Ellen had Arlington resident Liz D’Onofrio on the program last month after the host called her by surprise in November. Last spring, Ellen had Manassas principal Angela Burnett on the show. During that visit the host handed the educator a $50,000 check to help pay for school uniforms at Weems Elementary School.

Seriously Tom - they should be more focused on intolerant hate mongers.
