Financials: The annual operating budget is approximately $750,000.

History: In 1997, NOVACO started out as a group of caring neighbors and church congregations. After watching the Los Angeles riots, these neighbors wanted to prevent the riots from spreading to Northern Virginia and asked themselves how they could pay more attention to their community. The group received its first federal grant in 1999. They were incorporated in 2002 and received 501(c)(3) status in 2004.

How you can help: According to the organization's website, "NOVACO offers a range of opportunities where volunteers can put their time, skills, and experience to good use. NOVACO volunteers often learn new skills, connect with others, and truly make a difference in their roles." Current volunteer opportunities include childcare helper, administrative assistant, car repair, children's activity, youth and client tutor, marketing intern and other positions. To volunteer, contact Volunteer Manager, at (703) 218-3984, x225, or email. NOVACO is also part of the Combined Federal Campaign, which allows federal workers to give back to their local communities through designated giving.
