Empty Bowls, Silent Auction Benefit Needy Families

Event organized by Our Daily Bread.

More than 300 community members gathered at ’s fourth annual Empty Bowls event on February 23 at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center in Fairfax City.

Attendees selected handcrafted bowls donated by local artists, students and community members and enjoyed a simple meal of soup, bread and desserts donated by local restaurants and businesses. The evening also included jazz music from the Fairfax Saxophone Quartet and raffles and silent auction items.

Proceeds from the event will support ’s efforts to provide food, financial assistance, financial education and other support to working families throughout the Fairfax County area

Dozens of volunteers made this event possible, including James Madison Art Honor Society students,  Intro to Leisure course students, Alpha Delta Kappa members, Girl Scout Troop 3024 and Oakton United Methodist Church congregants.

Among the silent auction items were opportunities to dine with Virginia Senator Chap Peterson and George Mason University President Alan Merten, a chance to ride in a local Fourth of July parade with Fairfax County Board Chairman Sharon Bulova and a gift certificate to Chef Geoff’s Tysons with a kitchen tour by Chef Geoff.
