Weather Alert Issued as Severe Weather Approaches Region

Another afternoon, another threat of nasty weather, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for portions of the Northern Virginia area. The watch is in effect until 10 p.m.

Communities in the watch zone include Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford Spotsylvania and Manassas among others.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected, according to the NWS, with a few thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail.

A short term forecast noted that a storm heading to The Plains and Haymarket had the potential for wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph.
