UPDATE: Weather Alert From National Weather Service

Chance of storms across the region tonight.

UPDATE 6:55 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for much of the Northern Virginia area (see map); the warning is in effect until 8:30 p.m. for most of the area.

The National Weather Services has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the region. Communities include most of the Northern Virginia region.

The watch is in effect until 11 p.m. for most of the Northern Virginia region, including Loudoun, Fairfax, Alexandria, Arlington, Manassas and Prince William County, as well as Stafford and Spotsylvania.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop, according to the NWS, with stronger thunderstorms capable of producing locally damaging winds gusts and large hail.

The NWS notes that an isolated tornado is also possible.
