Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Northern Virginia

Heavy rainfall may result in flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

Much of the Northern Virginia area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. Monday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch area includes Patch communities in Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington and Prince William counties, as well as Fredericksburg, Manassas, Manassas Park, Falls Church, Fairfax and Alexandria.

Numerous thunderstorms, some severe, will develop this afternoon and evening, according to the NWS statement. In addition, any thunderstorm will produce very heavy rainfall and may result in localized flash flooding.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop again Tuesday, with wind damage and heavy rainfall possible.
