The Woodson Cavaliers opened their 2012 girls lacrosse regular season on March 20 on the road against the Langley Saxons. This match mirrored recent years’ games, with Langley prevailing in a tightly played affair by the final score of 11–8.
The two teams know each other well, having once been rivals in the Liberty District. Now, although Woodson has shifted to the Patriot District, the Cavs and Saxons continue to square off annually in an early season contest.
Woodson controlled play early, jumping out to a 3–0 lead, but Langley rebounded to take a 6–4 lead into halftime. The halftime score would have been knotted at six if two Woodson goals weren't disallowed due to offensive violations.

Midway through the second half Woodson fought back to tie the game at 8–8. That was as close as the Cavs would get to retaking the lead. Late in the second half Langley effectively controlled the ball and ultimately the game, adding three more scores to cap off an 11–8 win over Woodson.
The Cavaliers look to rebound from the loss Wednesday when they host nearby rival Robinson at Woodson’s Pat Cunningham Stadium. Game time is set for 7:15.
