The Fairfax Rebels field hockey team played host to the South Lakes Seahawks for senior night at Harold Stalnaker Stadium on Oct. 3. The Rebels were looking to stay undefeated in Liberty District play as they honored seniors Shelby Allen, Amanda Blackwell, Shannon Cosgrove, Grace Holman, Katie Rossbach, Nikki Strickland and Sam Zelenack.

South Lakes got off to a fast start, pressing play into the Fairfax end of the field and drawing a couple of penalty corners. On one of the corners, the Seahawks got a clean, hard shot on goal, but senior goalkeeper Shelby Allen was able to deflect the ball clear of the Rebels goal. As the first half wore on, Fairfax was able to begin to win possession and start to press the South Lakes goal. On a penalty corner, Fairfax junior midfielder Sara Allen received the ball and passed to senior captain Sam Zelenack who fired the ball past the Seahawk goalie for the game's first score. The games second goal would come when sophomore forward Charlotte Duke collected the rebound of an Allen shot and put it past the Seahawk defense.

In the second half, the Rebels would remain in control of the midfield with Zelenack and sophomore Cori Black attacking deep into South Lakes territory. The Rebels would net a third goal when Zelenack fired a shot from the top of the circle and senior midfielder Amanda Blackwell deflected the ball past the Seahawk goalkeeper.

With the victory, Fairfax improved to 13-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Liberty District. The Rebels will finish the regular season next week when they host the Langley Saxons (2-11, 2-2) on Tuesday night and then travel to Marshall for a season ending showdown with the Statesman (10-3, 2-1). With the loss, a much improved South Lakes team falls to 9-5 overall and 1-3 in the Liberty District.
