The Fairfax Rebels Field Hockey team was on the road to take on the Chantilly Chargers Wednesday night. The Rebels (2-0) hoped to extend their perfect record in a non-district matchup.

Early in the first half the play went end to end with both teams creating opportunities but neither team able to capitalize on the scoreboard. As the first half wore on, the Rebels started to take control, earning six penalty corners and generating 11 shots.

Despite several sprawling saves by Chargers senior goalie Alexa McGee, the Rebels would finally break through when aenior Shannon Cosgrove was able to lift the rebound of a shot by junior Emily Freeman over McGee.

The Rebels continued to keep the pressure on in the second half with their two senior captains teaming up on the second goal. Off of a penalty corner, Sam Zelenack was able to gather the rebound of a Shannon Cosgrove shot and beat a defender to put the ball in the goal.

The final goal of the game came when Sam Zelenack dribbled into the circle and executed a perfect give-and-go with Emily Freeman before firing a shot into the cage.

The 3-0 win marks the third straight win to open the season for Fairfax, and the third straight shutout by junior Goalie Mac Anderson and the Rebels defense.

The Rebels return to action September 5th when they host the Generals of Washington and Lee High School in another non-conference matchup.
