Rebels Bow Out in Liberty District Semis

After falling to Langley, Fairfax looks ahead to regionals

The Langley Saxons continued their run through the Liberty District with a 68-60 victory over the Fairfax Rebels in a semifinal matchup at South Lakes High School Wednesday.

Only five of the Saxon players recorded points, but four of them managed double figures, led by senior David Adams’ 20 points.

The big edge for the Saxons was their foul shooting specifically that of junior Tristan Evans, who made 7-of-8 foul shots to help ice the game in the fourth quarter.

“It’s definitely disappointing that we won’t get a chance at the district,” Boyle said. “We still have the regional game ahead of us, so we got to get ready for that.”

The first quarter was very much a back and forth affair with neither team taking advantage early on. The quarter ended with Fairfax leading the Saxons by two, but when the second period began, the Saxons really began to light up the scoreboard. Daniel Dixon hit two 3-pointers in the first half to get the offense in gear

Fairfax cut the deficit to five points at the half, thanks to a last-second shot by Spencer MacLeod. When the second half began, the Rebels ran briefly tied the game at 39.

Soon after that, Langley went on an 8-0 run to grab a lead it would only briefly relinquish.

Midway through the fourth, the Rebels came alive with triples by Boyle and senior Khalid Ahmed to cut the Saxon lead to one point. The Rebels took the lead on a Burnett two point shot after he rebounded his own miss. Austin Vasiliadis hit two foul shots to earn the Langley lead back, and the Saxons were able to pad the lead with a few defensive stops before Evans put the game away at the line.

The Saxons will play the South Lakes Seahawks in the Liberty District championship game to be played at South Lakes on Friday. Fairfax will match up against the National District champion in the first round of the Northern Region tournament.
