London 2012: Northern Virginia Olympians' Competition Schedule

Five athletes from Northern Virginia are competing in the 2012 Olympics in London.

Fourteen athletes from Virginia — — will compete in the 2012 Olympics in London starting this weekend. You can watch many of the events on NBC.

The following is a round-up of where and when Northern Virginia’s Olympians are competing (competition dates are local to London; check the television broadcast schedule or live online schedule for specific local times).

Guiseppe Lanzone, Rowing (Men’s Eight)

Giuseppe Lanzone of Annandale is competing in the men’s eight-person rowing event. The heats are Saturday, July 28, followed by repechages on Monday, July 30 and the medal round on Wednesday, Aug. 1. All of the competitions are at Eton Dorney.

Terrence Jennings, Taekwondo

Alexandria’s is competing in the < 68kg men’s taekwondo events in London on Thursday, Aug. 9. The competition is in an arena at the ExCeL venue.

Kate Ziegler, 800-meter Freestyle Swimming

, of Great Falls, is competing in the women’s 800-meter freestyle swimming event on Thursday, Aug. 2. If she advances to the medal round, she will also compete Aug. 3. The events are at the Aquatics Centre.

Claire Laubach, Field Hockey

Claire Laubach, a defense player from Bristow is playing in the women’s field hockey competition in a series of events beginning Sunday, July 29. The women’s field hockey medal matches will be Friday, Aug. 10.

Matt McLean, 800-meter Freestyle Relay

Sterling’s own Matt McLean will be competing in the men’s 800-meter freestyle relay (4 x 200) on Tuesday, July 31 at the Aquatics Centre.
