Fairfax's 'We Got the Runs' Takes on the East Coast Teams at Kickball Tournament

The all-day event at GMU features some of the top kickball teams from throughout the east coast.

Kickball365 is bringing their 2011 National Tour to George Mason University this weekend as part of the social weekend experience that they provide for kickball players throughout the nation.

“It’s more than just kickball,” said Matt Kemph, event manager for Kickball365 who resides in Alexandria. “We bring kickball players an entire social experience for the weekend and they get to play the game that they love, taking it to another level.”

2011 is the first year the DC based Kickball365 has held a national circuit tournament. The one-day GMU tournament features teams from throughout the east coast, from as far as Florida and Connecticut.

We Got the Runs” will be the only team representing Fairfax. They and all the other teams will face a tough field featuring “Panik Attack,” a Virginia Beach-based team that won the Atlanta and Virginia Beach tournaments earlier this year, and is also the 2011 World Adult Kickball Association Spring Virginia Southside tournament champion.

“Technically we’re calling this the first year of the circuit, but we’ve been hosting events in and around the DC area for three years,” said Kemph. “We’re a startup from the D.C. area trying to take off.”

The organization was founded in 2006, and has been offering social and competitive leagues throughout the nation ever since; social leagues for the more casual kick baller and competitive leagues for the kick ball weekend warriors.

They’re “not your daddy’s countryclub,” according to their website. Teams who enter the weekend tournaments also compete for the chance to play in the first annual Circuit Cup championship in Las Vegas in October.

Teams are competing for a first place cash prize of $3,000 and a free entry into the 2012 Kickball365 Open, second place walks away with $1,500.

The weekend kicks off with the first of their three social events, teams check in and register while throwing back a few cold ones at Ireland’s Four Courts, an Irish Pub in Arlington. Saturday night they will be at Continental Pool Lounge in Arlington and they’ll close the weekend with brunch and mimosas at the Beacon Bar and Grill in Northwest Washington D.C.
