Cavs Win Over Undefeated Wolverines in Patriot District

Final score: 19-10

Woodson girls lacrosse faced undefeated West Potomac at home on April 19 to continue its recent success in Patriot District play. When the final whistle sounded the Cavaliers found themselves right where they hoped it be, on the winning end of a 19–10 victory that moved their district record to 3–0.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a quick 3–0 lead and remained in command 12–7 at halftime. Woodson pulled away in the second half thanks to its stifling defense and control of ground ball opportunities.

Senior co-captain Leah Williamson had a fine game controlling ground balls at midfield and starting Woodson’s offensive chances. Fellow senior Morgan Willard led the defense causing several turnovers near the eight-meter arch. Senior goalie and co-captain Victoria Vinall had another strong game, particularly in the second half to prevent any chance of a Wolverine comeback.

Senior co-captain Elena Obregon led the Cavs’ scoring with six goals. She was helped on offense by her sister, Isabel and a handful of underclassmen, including Jasmine Kim, Kelly Stegner, DeeDee Montgomery and Meghan Smiga.
