Cavaliers Baseball Team Remains Undefeated

Woodson improved to 2-0 with a victory over the winless Fairfax Rebels who lost their second straight game by a one run margin.

Fairfax Rebels lost their second game in a row by a one-run margin, losing to their W.T. Woodson rivals 6-5 on a breezy Saturday afternoon at the Cavaliers’ home field.

The Rebels were unable to score again after sophomore catcher Brandon Ginch’s three run homerun in the top of the fifth inning gave them a 5-2 lead. Woodson senior Joe McGillicuddy’s two RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning tied the score before an errant play by Fairfax gave Woodson their sixth and decisive run of the day.

The Cavaliers closed the game on a defensive note. Junior Anthony Ferraro recorded three straight strikeouts to end the game.

Fairfax went through a number of pitchers looking for the right arm to secure their victory. Junior Walker Carlson looked good in relief in the fourth inning but was unable to keep his momentum going into the fifth inning when Woodson eventually took the lead.

A representative from the Loudoun Hounds was spotted in the crowd. The independent ball club opens their inaugural season during the summer of 2012.
