C.J. McCracken, 17, a senior at Woodson High School, said he was kind of sad that this would be his last "Cav Kickoff."

"It's sad, but you just have to do the best you can and finish it out strong," said McCracken, who was recruiting new students to the Drama Club at the afternoon event. He is applying to the University of Virginia as an early decision applicant.

Fairfax High School Senior Hailey Machen, 17, agreed that it's hard looking back at three finished years of high school and looking forward to college at the same time.

"I think it's bittersweet," said Machen, who was manning the Class of 2012 booth at the "Rebels Reunite" event. "I can't believe looking at these freshmen how young. Wow. We were there once and now we're the big people on campus."

Fairfax County Public Schools start on Tuesday. The 2011-2012 school system calendar is available online.
