Search for New Robinson Secondary School Principal Continues

Fairfax County Public Schools is still interviewing candidates to replace retired Robinson Principal Dan Meier.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is still searching for the right candidate to serve as the next principal of Robinson Secondary School.

FCPS spokesman John Torre confirmed to Patch that candidates are still being interviewed in an ongoing search to replace Dan Meier, who retired as principal of Robinson in April.

"We hope to be able to announce the new principal of Robinson Secondary School in mid to late June," Torre said in an email to Patch.

Meier, who was principal at Robinson for 10 years, announced his decision to retire back in January. Torre said the search for a new principal began in February.

Since then, FCPS has gathered feedback from community members, including parents and students, about what kind of candidate they'd like to see fill Meier's shoes.

"The input from the Robinson community has been considerable," said Torre.

In March, FCPS announced John Ponton, former Annandale High School principal, would serve as acting principal from April 1 to June 30.

A post on the Robinson Parent-Teacher Student Association website from March offered the following details on the interview process:

We had a small pool of applicants for the Robinson position when it was advertised in early February. Following the resume screening, only 3 applicants were recommended for the panel to interview. Typically 5-8 are recommended for panel interviews. The Robinson interview panel had 16 members – 6 parents; 6 staff; 1 student; 2 FCPS principals, and the Cluster 6 Director. Following the panel interviews, each individual panel member recommends a candidate to the Cluster Assistant Superintendent to consider for follow-up interviews. The recommendations from the panel members did not indicate broad support for any of the 3 applicants.

The post further states that a new panel will be selected to help interview new candidates.

Patch will follow this story for more updates as the occur.
