Photos: Nursery Schoolers Help Make Soldiers' Holidays Brighter

Find out what these children told the soldiers they are most thankful for, due to their sacrifices.

In the young 3s and 4s class at Providence Nursery School on Wednesday, a group of adorable young kids sat in a half-circle around their teacher, Aimee Emmerich, as they learned about what U.S. soldiers do.

"What do you think soldiers do, children?" Emmerich asked.

"They get the bad guys!" one child answered.

"They protect people," said another.

They were both right. Soldiers do both of those things, Emmerich said, and so much more.

"And many times, a soldier's job means he has to go way, way, far away from home, and stay there for a long time," Emmerich added—even during holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So on Wednesday, the children and their teachers got together and made homemade holiday cards, to mail to soldiers overseas.

The cards, in the shape of Christmas trees, each featured a special message from the child telling about one freedom they are thankful soldiers' sacrifices provide them every day.

Four-year-olds Emily and Adeline said, "I am free to play."

Three-year-old Leo, whose father serves in the Air Force, wrote he is thankful that he is "free to eat."

Emmerich's class partnered with A Million Thanks to send the cards to soldiers overseas who can use some holiday cheer this season.
