Lanier Middle School Gets Donation of 750 New Books

Books for America made the donation, and teachers were allowed to select as many books for their classes as they wanted.

It was like Christmas for the teachers at Lanier Middle School in Fairfax City on Monday, when Books for America delivered a donation of 750 new, age-appropriate books for their classrooms.

At a book giveaway party in the library, the Lanier teachers were allowed to browse and pick out as many books as they liked for their classrooms as well as for some of their students to take home.

Books for America Founder and President Steve Hersey said, "We are very pleased to be able to support the students and educators at Lanier Middle School, and we plan to grant many additional books in the near future."

Books for America depends on books donated by the public to use in its programs.

"We take books donated by the public and use them to build and improve reading libraries in local D.C.-area schools and shelters," Hersey explained. "We need every book we can get - both children's books and books for adults."

Hersey said Books for America has a home pickup service available for Northern Virginia homes and businesses interested in donating books.
