FHS Students Get Their College Picks and More With AVID Help

The Washington Post reports on a FCPS elective.

An elective program at some Fairfax County public schools helped Fairfax High School students Micaela Soto and Mitch Ardinger achieve their dream.

The Advancement Via Individual Determination program guides hard-working students through the complicated college application process and gives them the tools they need to get better grades.

Thanks to AVID, Ardinger has his pick of Ferrum, Bridgewater and Randolph-Macon colleges. Soto not only plans to attend Christopher Newport University in the fall, but will do so with a $20,000 scholarship.
