Cold Weather Closures in Fairfax: Schools, SACC Centers and More

Update from the City of Fairfax: "Due to unique weather circumstances there is a change in weather policy for Tuesday Jan 7th ONLY. 

All adult classes and programs at The Sherwood Center and Green Acres including the Senior Center, will take place as normal. 

All youth activity, including the Baby & Me classes at Green Acres,  will be cancelled.

All Fairfax County public schools will be closed Tuesday, January 7, due to "dangerously low temperatures and wind chill," the district announced Monday evening.

Offices will be open. 

The following activities in schools and on school grounds are canceled:

  • extracurricular activities
  • interscholastic contests
  • team practices
  • field trips
  • middle school after-school programs
  • professional learning and training courses
  • all adult and community education classes
  • recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS


SACC Centers 

School Age Child Care (SACC) centers are closed as well, the district said.


Government Offices:

City of Fairfax: Open, employees granted liberal leave.

County of Fairfax: Open, employees granted liberal leave.


Brush Pickup:

City of Fairfax: No pickup Tuesday, Jan. 7 due to cold weather conditions.
