Where and When to Vote
Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. People in line before 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Due to statewide redistricting, some voters may be going to a different polling location than in past years. If you voted at the City of Fairfax Police Station in the past, you'll do so at the new Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center this year.
Absentee Voting

Absentee voting started in July. The last day to vote absentee in person is Saturday, Aug. 20. Absentee ballots must be received by the elections office by 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23. Completeinformation on absentee voting is available on the Fairfax County government website.

WHO’S ON THE BALLOT TUESDAY
There's only one race on the ballot in Fairfax City on Tuesday, Aug. 23.
Fairfax County Sheriff
Two Republicans, “Wes” Kammerer and William Cooper, are facing off in the Aug. 23 primary. The winner will face current Sheriff Stan Barry in November.

NOVEMBER CANDIDATES
The following races will not appear on the Aug. 23 ballot since none are primary challenges, but these candidates will appear on the ballot in November.
Fairfax City voters will decide:
State Senate – District 34
Incumbent Chap Petersen, a Democrat, is facing a challenge from Gerarda Culipher. Petersen has served since 2008.
