VIDEO: Schmidt Talks Campaign Issues at Eastwind

The kickoff drew recent campaigners and former officials.

Councilwoman Ellie Schmidt joined supporters at Eastwind in downtown Fairfax City Sunday to kick off her campaign for a second term on city council.

Schmidt emphasized the city's continuing need for economic development, especially along Fairfax Boulevard, a well-disciplined budget, and the preservation of the character of Fairfax City neighborhoods.

The event drew Fairfax City school board and council members, staff (including Treasurer Steve Moloney and Fairfax County Circuit Court Clerk John Frey), former elected officials, and 2011 Virginia Senate contender Gerarda Culipher.

Commissioner of Revenue Page Johnson gathered the audience at the lobby of the new Vietnamese restaurant on Main Street. Councilmen Steve Stombres, also up for reelection this year, and Scott Silverthorne, candidate for mayor, commended Schmidt on the time she spends researching an issue before making a decision.
