New Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez Meets With Fairfax Firefighters

Perez honored local firefighters and first-responders for their dedication.

Leading up to his official swearing-in as the new U.S. Secretary of Labor Wednesday, Thomas E. Perez met with Fairfax firefighters over the Labor Day weekend to honor them for their service.

Perez said that, while most local residents enjoyed the much-deserved long weekend, taking a break from work, he wanted to honor the dedication of firefighters and first-responders who remain on the job even on holidays, continuing to keep local communities safe.

Perez, who was nominated as the new Secretary of Labor by President Obama in March and confirmed by the Senate in July, will be sworn in at the Department of Labor's Great Hall in Washington, D.C. Wednesday afternoon.
