New Candidate for Governor Throws His Hat in the Ring

“Virginia needs open-minded, economically literate leadership, not culture wars and class wars,” Sarvis, 36, said in a statement.

Sarvis says Virginia needs a leader not beholden to a particular party.

“Let's buck the two-party system, bring people together, and build a Virginia that's open-minded and open for business,” he said.

Sarvis supports tax reform, as well as gay marriage, protection of gun rights and drug law reform.

“By protecting personal and economic freedom, we can make Virginia the envy of the world, with a growing economy that adds jobs and raises incomes, and a system of laws providing equality and justice for all,” he said.

Sarvis, an entrepreneur and lawyer, is a Virginia native and resident of Annandale in Fairfax County. He grew up in West Springfield and went to high school at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

He also has a math degree from Harvard University and law degree from New York University’s School of Law.

Sarvis ran for the Virginia State Senate in 2011 against Dick Saslaw (D-35) but was unsuccessful. Saslaw took 62 percent of the vote to Sarvis’ 36 percent.
