Most Fairfax City Campaign Funds Go to Obama

Romney comes in second in city campaign contributions.

So far Fairfax City residents contributed about $59,000 to 2012 presidential campaigns. Most of the money went to President Barack Obama and former governor Mitt Romney.

As of Feb. 21, Obama’s campaign received about $39,000 from residents in the 22030 ZIP code, according to information at Opensecrets.org.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney’s campaign had the second-highest amount in contributions, with $17,000 from Fairfax City residents.

Former U.S. Rep. Newt Gingrich’s campaign netted about $7,000.

The campaigns to elect U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), and Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum received less than $6,000 each.

Fairfax County residents in Patch's coverage area have donated a total of more than $1 million to presidential campaigns.

More than half of those dollars have gone to Romney’s campaign, which has gained a total of about $576,000 from Fairfax County residents. Obama has received the second-highest number of donations, with $457,000.

Gingrich has received about $57,000 from county residents, while Santorum and Paul have collected about $17,000 and $12,000 respectively.

The Virginia Republican Presidential Primary election will be held on Tuesday, but only Romney and Paul will appear on the ballot.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
