Chain Bridge Road Detour Begins Tuesday

Six-month construction will leave only one lane for southbound traffic, reroute northbound vehicles and pedestrians.

Bridge replacement work begins Tuesday, rerouting traffic on busy Chain Bridge Road for roughly six months. The work is expected to improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists crossing over Accotink Creek, according to the City of Fairfax.

Southbound traffic will be serviced with a one-lane temporary bridge. But northbound traffic and all pedestrians will be detoured during the construction.

Traffic northbound will be routed onto Whitehead Street, east to University Drive and then onto Kenmore Drive until it intersects with Chain Bridge Road beyond the construction site.
