VIDEO: Candidate Read Celebrates Jefferson Birthday With Supporters

She says Thomas Jefferson inspired her to run for council.

Council candidate Catherine Read welcomed supporters and history buffs at Blenheim Friday to celebrate Thomas Jefferson's 269th birthday.

Read talked about her days as an elementary school student, discovering Jefferson's legacy, and growing to learn the importance of dedication, aspiring to do great things and working to make lives better for those around her.

In a way, she said, her fascination for Jefferson led her to run for Fairfax City council. Click the video above to hear her explain.

The campaign event featured food from Sabzi, a persian kabob restaurant on University Drive, and a Jefferson Memorial-model cake by chief baker Junnie Han of Indigo Pineapple

Supporter Mark Isaacs donated an impressionist painting of a gazebo in a park to Read's campaign. You can bid on the artwork here. Bidding closes on Friday. All money goes to the Read campaign.
