Absentee Voting Begins Friday

If you've got a valid excuse, you can vote before Nov. 6 in person at the elections office or by mail.

The election is Nov. 6, but if you're not going to be here, don't sweat it. You can vote absentee.

Absentee voting begins Friday for Fairfax City residents. You have the option of showing up in person at the Office of Elections starting Friday, mailing in your ballot, or visiting the city's General Registrar's Office.

Click here to apply for absentee voting. Your application must be turned into the Registrar's Office at least seven days before Nov. 6.

Some valid excuses for voting absentee that will pass muster, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections:

  • If you won't be in the city or county in which you're registered to vote on election day.
  • If you're confined awaiting trial.
  • If you're pregnant.
  • If you'll be working and commuting longer than 11 hours on Election Day, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Drop off your absentee ballot to the General Registrar’s Office / Sisson House, 10455 Armstrong St. Fairfax, Virginia 22030.

You can apply and vote in-person at the General Registrar's Office during regular business hours. The office will also be open to absentee voters on Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
