Red Light Camera: New Intersection Mapped

There's a new camera in the City of Fairfax where a traffic violation will cost you. For now, it's just a warning.

Warning notices are likely already in the mail for some Fairfax City drivers after a new red light enforcement camera went live last week.

The light monitors westbound traffic on Main Street at Pickett Road. Warning notices will be mailed to violators through July 11. Enforcement begins the following day.

According to the Fairfax City Police, the city has conducted photo red light enforcement at the intersection of University Drive and North Street and at Fairfax Circle since 2011.

Traffic signs indicating that photo red light has been adopted as a safety measure are placed next to the affected intersections.

But, we say it's best to follow the rules of the road, even when nobody is watching.
