Police, Optimists Offer Free ID Kits

These kits could come in handy should you or a member of your family go missing.

Fairfax City Police and Optimists once again offer free kits meant to help police find your or your loved one should they ever go missing.

Make an appointment to come in Tuesday between 1-6 p.m. to create your kit.

Safe Assured identification kits include a full color photo ID and a mini-CD that contains digital fingerprints, a digital photo, video showing movement and mannerisms, a general physical description, vital personal information, and a family code word.

"If a child goes missing, the information can be pulled off of the cd by any law enforcement agency," said Sgt. Daniel Grimm. "They have the ability to listen to a child talk as well as see if there is anything with the way in which they walk or mannerisms that they display that would assist law enforcement with identification purposes or information that they could provide to the public."

Missing persons posters can be created and printed directly from the mini-CD in English, Spanish and French. The identification kits can also be used as a valuable aid for adults with special needs.
