UPDATED: Several Injured in Car Crash at Daniels Run School

UPDATE (Thursday): A driver and two passengers were transported to the hospital following Monday's crash, said Sgt. Joe Johnson of the City of Fairfax Police Department. All three were treated successfully. None of the injuries were life-threatening.

(2:48 p.m.) Police have cleared the vehicles from the school parking lot. They remain on scene to reconstruct the crash.

(2:39 p.m.) City officer Ken Caldwell praised Daniels Run administrative staff for their help in closing off the crash scene.

"The school did an outstanding job of working with us," Caldwell said. He added that school staff helped police move Kiss and Ride away from the debris.

A man who lost control of his vehicle Monday afternoon caused several accidents along Old Lee Highway before entering the parking lot of a Fairfax elementary school and striking a commercial van, sending its driver and passengers to the hospital with injuries.

The City of Fairfax Police Department, along with fire and rescue units, are on scene at Daniels Run Elementary School reconstructing the scene.

No pedestrians or students were injured in the accident, which happened around 1 p.m., Fairfax City police said; Mondays are early release days for all county elementary schools, Fairfax County Public Schools spokesperson John Torre said. 

The driver of the striking vehicle, along with those in the van, have been transported to the hospital. Their status is unavailable at this time.

None of the passengers were students, Torre said.

According to police, a male driver was traveling southbound on Old Lee Highway around 1 p.m. when they believe he had a medical emergency. 

"The gentleman started a chain reaction on Old Lee Highway, which ended in the school parking lot," Caldwell said.

After causing several accidents along the road, he made his way into the school's parking lot, slamming into a van and turning it on its side.

It's not clear why the van was at the school. Writing on the van indicates it belongs to www.gotigereye.com, a Fairfax-based Taekwando studio. Its website says it also runs after-school programs. 

No information is available at this time on the status of the driver, nor how many accidents he caused. It's unclear how many passengers were in the van at the time of the accident, or if charges will be filed.
