Police Nab Suspected Car Thief, Search for Catalytic Converter

Fairfax City police catch a man suspected of stealing a Fairfax County vehicle this week. Officers seek any information on a stolen bike, GPS unit and catalytic converter. Details:

An officer patrolling Old Lee Highway Sunday evening nabbed a Fairfax man for allegedly stealing a Fairfax County vehicle. Rodriguez, 19, of 10299 Friendship Court was arrested after an officer patrolling Old Lee Highway noticed the vehicle, did a license plate check and followed the vehicle into the municipal parking lot on University Drive. Rodriguez, the driver, and an unidentified passenger were detained for questioning. Police later sent Rodriguez to the Adult Detention Center in the county's Judicial Center to be held without bond.

A Foxcroft Colony Condominiums man told police Wednesday that someone removed the catalytic converter from his parked vehicle sometime after midnight. The incident occurred on the 9800 block of Fairfax Boulevard.

A Mosby Woods woman told police Thursday morning that sometime after midnight someone took her GPS unit from her vehicle, which was parked on the 10000 block of Mosby Woods Drive.

Police are investigating a fraud incident in which a Gainsborough Court woman's identity was used around August 24 to open an unauthorized bank account in Texas. The victim notified police on Thursday.

A man contacted police after someone took his bicycle and its lock from a concrete post in Fairfax Circle Shopping Center. The victim believes the crime occurred sometime after 11:15 a.m. on Thursday. He reported it to police at 12:17 p.m. the same day.
