Police Charge Man Who Drove Into Two Fairfax Pedestrians

The pedestrians were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police charged a Gaithersburg man with hitting two pedestrians in Fairfax City last week.

David Kwon, 31, struck a 76-year-old Fairfax man and 54-year-old Fairfax woman as they attempted to cross Chain Bridge Road at Fairfax Boulevard at around noon Friday. He was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The two pedestrians were taken to Fairfax Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Kwon was traveling southbound on Chain Bridge Road when he pulled to a stop partially in the crosswalk at a red light, Fairfax City Sgt. Kyle Penman said.

Kwon told officers he saw the pedestrians and thought they were waiting to cross Fairfax Boulevard. Kwon made a right hand turn onto westbound Fairfax Boulevard as the pedestrian 'Walk' sign lit up and the two victims stepped into the Chain Bridge Road crosswalk to travel eastbound.

Penman said Kwon stopped immediately after he struck the pedestrians. The intersection was blocked to traffic for a short time while police examined the scene.
